Acute Coronary Syndrome

Cardiology · Ischemic Heart Disease · 1 min read

A structured review of recognition, ECG localization, and initial management.

Overview

Acute coronary syndrome describes myocardial ischemia caused by an abrupt reduction in coronary blood flow. Rapid ECG interpretation and risk-directed treatment are central to safe care.

Clinical pearl

Persistent ST elevation in anatomically contiguous leads should trigger immediate reperfusion planning while contraindications are assessed.

Diagnostic approach

Confirm ECG calibration, identify the involved territory, look for reciprocal change, and integrate the tracing with the clinical presentation.

Initial management

  1. Assess stability, obtain a 12-lead ECG promptly, give appropriate antiplatelet therapy, and activate reperfusion pathways for eligible STEMI patients.
